RapidSpike Website Redesign

If it’s not broke, don’t fix it… or so the saying goes. But at RapidSpike that just doesn’t cut the innovative mustard, so we’ve redesigned our website, overhauled our branding and done it all with the intention of highlighting the core functionality behind the RapidSpike site for the customer’s benefit. Here’s what we did and why:

Why we’ve redesigned our site:

Starting with the design, we’ve gone for a sleek, 2021 refresh with a modern yet classic colour palette and simple animations in the headers (and on the page) to illustrate technical subjects. It’s quality over quantity, so you won’t see any pointless spinning widgets. If it moves or has a picture, it has a purpose.

Faster:

As for the build process, we implemented a new grid system, coded from the ground up and simplified our existing setups so it’s easy for the site content to adapt to different breakpoints.

Nifty, huh? Once we tested the grid system and checked it was working correctly we created our global class names, which you can see scattered around the site.

Single class names save us from having to create multiple files and duplicating code. In total we created around 9 global CSS files that contain our main class names and 3 JavaScript files for the whole site. This improved our overall site performance by over 25%.

Safer:

With a new website redesign, comes new security. We have added new and improved security onto our site covering a variety of areas from Anti-Virus to Firewalls. At RapidSpike we encrypt all web traffic, a critical step in making our website safer and more secure. Our security choices include algorithms that block malicious IP’s in real-time in order to mitigate issues that may create noise for our customers.

We also run regular vulnerability scans to stay on top of current threats and to ensure our configuration is secure.

Reliable:

As the new website performs well, it has in turn become more reliable. How do we quantify this? Well, our page load times are shorter, meaning users get to where they want to be faster. The total load time for the websites DOM to be complete sits around 1.4 seconds. Our LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) now stands at 0.4 seconds, FID (First Input Delay) 80ms and CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) 0.012seconds.
